- 1),111 lIullum/ _ Don U"lIund "It's Great to be at Harding" Serving as Assistant to the President involved Dr. Jimmy Carr in a variety of interesting activities. His gregarious nature and his warm, sincere personalit y and cheerful smile made him a "natural" for the public relations work he did with the Searcy community and -as executive director of the Associated Women for Harding University. His favorite expression, "Jr's great to be at Harding," improved the attitude of many students and colleagues. Commenting on his years at Harding, Dr. Carr commented: " In August , I completed my tenth year at Harding. In more than 35 years of work in the field of higher education, I have never experienced the fulfillment and joy my association with Harding University has given me. It is a unique exof the Academic Affairs Committee, a member of t-he Graduate Council, and Director of the Summer Session. In the latter capacity, he introduced the intersession between the May graduation and the regular summer session. Speaking of this work, Carr stated, "As Director of the Summer Sessions, I am most pleased that with the assistance of many indi viduals the Universit y was able to established a record enrollment for the summer of 1980 with 842 students enrolled. We are anticipating an enrollment of more than I ,000 for the summer of 1981." He took great delight each summer in taking groups of students and faculty on float trips down the Buffalo River renown for it s natural beauty. He coordinated the two early orientation sessions "It is a unique experince . .. which has made a real impact on my life . .. I am grateful for all who have made our work possible at the University. " perience in which students, faculty and administrators have made a real impact on my life. Since I did not have the opportunity of attending a Christian college, Harding is more meaningful to me than perhaps it is to some who have had this experience as a student. I am grateful for all who have made our work possible at the University." His civic services were numerous. He served on the Board of Directors of the Searcy Kiwanis Club, the Quapaw Council of Boy Scouts of America, the Delta Hills Health System Agency, the White County United Way, and the State Wide Planning and Development for Nursing Education Committee. He served as Chairman of Springtime Searcy, Co-chairman of the Public Relations and Publi - city Committee of the Searcy Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the Searcy Civic Improvement Committee. In the academic area of the University, he served as a member CHEERING on the Bison's, Dr. Jimmy Carr leads the crowd in a Homecoming cheer. - Dr. Jimmy Carr during the summer and ihe "supper club" in the Heritage Cafeteria with faculty members serving as waiters for students, prospecti ve student s, and parents. As an elder of the College Church of Chri st, he was acti vely involved in the spiritual life of student s. He chaired the congregation' s Campus Ministry Committee and was a member of the Counseling Commitlee and the Foster Care Committee. Dr. Carr was an enlhusiastic supporter of all student acti vities. He coordinated the Homecoming acti vitie s, ser ved on th e Downtown Bison Boosters Club, participated in the fall Jog-AThon making 20 laps around the track in an hour, coordinated the Harding Day at the two Searcy Pi zza Hut s, and admini stered the selection of seniors for Who ' s Who Among Studenls in American Colleges and Universities.
