With this definition, Harding spirit could be rated as outstanding. Cooperation existed between the cheerleaders, athletes, social clubs and students, resulting in a fervor of enthusiasm that lasted the year round. The instigators behind the increase in spirit had to be the Bison cheerleaders. Their hard work and dedication seemed to show in their performances on the sidelines of both the football field and basketball court. Many hours of practice went into routines and cheers. 'We practice about four times a week during football season and then we taper off after the first of the year ," commented Stacy Adkins, head cheerleader. 'We come a week early when the football team comes and we practice that whole week before school even begins." Fan support, especially from the basketball and football teams, reached a peak during the year. Although football sometimes lacked the spirit to which it was accustomed, basketball thrived on the cheering and enthusiasm from the stands. '"fhey both just kind-{)f take up for each other." Cooperation also existed between the squad and the administration. '''The administration has really been cooperative this year, especially since they let us go to camp. We've really appreciated that," Ellen Pilkenton, co-captain of the squad, said. "Mrs. Barnes, our sponsor, has helped us alot in dealing with the administration." One of the biggest problems that the :heerleaders dealt with was the image that they held in the eyes of the student body. 'We've worked so hard to build up the cheerleaders' reputation ," Miss Adkins said. "That's one reason we went to camp: to learn what other schools were doing.
