Many hours of hard work go on behind the scenes to prepare routines. draw signs, and make up cheers . The person who serves as the backbone of thls organizatlon is Barbara Barnes, the cheerleading sponsor. Her job brings her no glory from the spectators yet It is a necessary position. Some of her responsibilities include working with the squad to help organize pep rallies. figure the budget and simply to be there when problems arise . "So much time and effort goes into cheerleading and Stacy Adkins as head cheerleader has been tremendous, totally cooperative, respons* TAKING on unaccustomed break. Barbaro Barnes discusses her responsibilities as cheerleader sponsor, ible and willing to help at anytime with the squad." said Mrs. Barnes. A graduate from Harding University with a Masters in physical education, Mrs. Barnes is in her sixteenth year as a teacher. "('ve been involved in athletics all my Ufe as a player and now my involvement as a sponsor of a college cheerleading squad has opened up to me a whole new dimension and appreciation for the cheerleading part of sports," she mentioned. Mrs. Barnes accompanied the girls to Southern Methodist University in Dallas for a one week summer cheerleading camp. The squad received several superior ribbons and won the spirit stick on one of the nights of competition.
