3 KAT's capture spirit award 328 The KAT's year began with the excitement of capturing the social club spirit award on pledge night ; club members carried the spirit stick wi th pride the next week. Seventeen pledges marched from school to Carol Coker's house on Thursday of pledge week for their formal acceptance tea , singing the club song as they went and doing exercises along Race Street. Pledge night at the ball game the pledges dressed like ca ts using tails, black noses, and whiskers and wore the club bean ie. At the KAT Christmas party on December 8 which was held at the home of Karen Flippin , dates were given stockings stuffed wi th toys. Club members exchanged gifts with their prayer sisters. On March 1 the banquet was held at the Green Barn; a_Spanish theme was used. Social Clubs Club beaux, Alan Pryor and Jack Smith, gave the club extra boosts by coaching the girls in intramural sports and doing special things for each girl such as presenting new members with carnations and old members with silk roses during pledging times. 1.
