Student Life Chapel. No matter if you liked it, hated it, or just tolerated it, it was a required daily oct:ul'tence that everyone shared . A commonly asked question during first period was "What's in chapel?" The answers were always varied, ranging from ") don't know" to "Who cares1" A day was set aside each week for a hymn sing, but otherwise, there was generally not a set schedule of programs. In a typical week, the programs might have included one of Coach Tony Felker's infamous "educational" films, such as "Harvesting Avocados in California"; a hymn sing led by the senior boys; a game show, such as "Name That Tune," emceed by Mr. Craig Jones; an explanation of school policies regarding detention hall from Mr. Bill Diles; and a dramatic interpretation of short stories by Mr. Ray Wright. For some, it was an ideal time to sleep - others daydreamed or visited with their friends sitting near by. But the really intriguing chapel programs caught everyone's attention. By the end of the year, there were always a few programs which stood out in the students' minds and were remembered when they looked back on their new beginnings.
