1979-1980 Yearbook

Whos Who honors record number of 47 Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities named 47 Harding seniors to its ranks in 1980, and there were six second-year seniors who had been named in 1979. Qualification for membership required a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 and nomination by a member of the faculty or by the Student Association. Elected by the faculty, nominees were considered on the basis of their leadership abilities, scholarship, citizenship and future Home economics major Jamie Baites was active in many organizations at Harding, holding memberships in the Arkansas Home Economics Association, the Student National Education Association, and Kappa Delta Pi. Jamie was also involved in intramural sports and was a representative of Omega Phi women's club in May Fete. She also held several offices in her social club and was on the Dean's List. Discussing future plans, Jamie stated, "I have one permanent plan: to serve God by :serving others." A native of Memphis, she lans to return there after graduation. Petit Jean Queen Robin Bales was an elementary education major from Searcy. She was vice-president of Ju Go Ju social club and was Galaxy's queen for three years. Robin participated in the Big Sisters program along with being involved with JOY and the Dactylology Club. Robin was Homecoming representative for her class and also Winter Festival class representative. In addition to being a cheerleader, she took part in the intramural sports program, earning recognition as an all-star in softball . She also participated in Campaigns. Brenda Ball Brenda Ball, originally of Mannington, West Virginia, transferred to Harding from Ohio Valiey Coliege. A speech pathology major, she was involved in several fields of study including psychology, biology, audiology and special education. Brenda was a member of SNEA and Kappa Delta Pi. She was elected to Alpha Chi and served as secretary for , the Student Speech and Hearing Association. She also worked on the Petit Jean staff. Brenda plans to work in Texas as a speech pathologist, completing her master's degree within the next twosears. David Bangs Physical education major David Bangs came to Harding from Northeastern A and M Junior Coliege. A member of the PEMM dub, David was active athletically in intramurals and in football, serving as a captain of the Bisons this year. He was also a member of the Dactylology Club and Kappa Sigma Kappa social club and was a club beau for Kappa Kappa Kappa and Kappa Phi social dubs. Chuck Bryant As a psychology major, Chuck Bryant was a member of Psi Chi and worked on the Hot Line staff to further his experience in that area. Also involved in creative organizations and special interest groups, Chuck was a member of the KHCA staff, working as a disc jockey and newsman. He also worked on the Bison staff as a cartoonist and reporter, He also participated in reader's theatre and in drama. His future plans are to attend graduate school and become a certified vocational counselor. He hopes to assist the Heartbeat organization in a major city after he finishes his graduate work.
