A cut above the majority In the year of the Olympics thoughts were turning to going for the gold and being the best in the world on a given day. Although the people on these pages were not the best in the world at what they did, they were recognized for a degree of excellence exhibited over a season or seasons, not for one day alone. From the thirteenth Harding student in 21 years to be named Ale Scholar Athlete to the five who gained All-American recognition, each competed to his fullest in representing the University. The honor of being named All-AIC, AlIAmerican or Coach of the Year does not determine if one's life is a success or not. More is involved that than in measuring true success. However , being an All-Star was an indication of the person's ability to achieve success in a manner that was a cut above the majority. Becoming an All-Star was not everything, but it was a lot. E. Berryhill Outstanding Senior Athlete Award and was also the Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference scholar athlete for the 1978-79 season . The Berryhill award is presented annually a senior athlete who has earned at least two intercollegiate letters and has shown superior effort, leadership and a positive influence for exemplifying the ideals of Harding UniSENIOR Jeff Earnhart, recipient of the 1979 Scholar Athlete Award. , versity. A gold watch was presented to Earnhart during Awards Day ceremonies by Dr. Joseph Pryor, Chairman of the Faculty-Athlete Committee. A three-year letterman, Earnhart earned first team AII-AIC honors as well as being named to the All-America Honorable Mention squad. Earnhart is a member of the Alpha Chi Honor Society and carried almost a 4.0 average on a four-point scale.
