'Tm part of what gets them going. I like to get them up for games and encourage them during time-outs, half-time and during the week." Spark-plugging the team is just one of many facets of a basketball trainer's experience. The job is a full-thrust endeavor. Trainer Dean Stanley explained the hard work aspect: 'We have to open the gym, get it ready for practice, get the practice uniforms out, tape ankles for players who need it, help coaches through different drills and lock up the gym after practice. I work up all the statistics for the school's records." Both trainers have seen the benefits of their work. "I've learned a lot about just playing basketball and about coaching it and just getting up dose with everything the team does," Paul said. "[ feel I'm just as much a part of the team as any player." "We get the satisfaction and experience we need for our future coaching careers," Dean remarked. "From our experiences we'll be able to help treat injuries and be able to relate to the players themselves. We've got an inside view of both the coach and the players as they see things, and we are sort of a mediator between the two," - Beth Parker fF;,) KEEPING a close eye on the action on the court, Dean Stanley and Paul Morris record statistics for the 8isons. «r -
