1979-1980 Yearbook

• • • • I " SIBC: The big thing What is the noisiest place on campus? It is the Bison Lanes located in the student center. Not only is it a place to gather and play pinball or pool , but it is one of the best university bowling facilities in Arkansas. It is here that the Bison Keglers gather daily at 3:30 for team practice. This year the Keglers have been competing in two different leagues, the Southern Intercollegiate Bowling Conference and the Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference. Concerning the SIBC, Coach Ed Burt stated, "It is the biggest independent collegiate league in the country - it is the big thing." The 1980 season was the last year for AIC competition. "All the schools got together and voted not to continue Ale bowling competition - the reason was not evident, ' Burt said. There used to be eight schools involved, but this year there were only three: Harding, Arkansas Tech and Ouachita Baptist. Next year Harding hopes to be bowl ing in their own division here in Arkansas. The Keglers have been traveling to Lou isiana to compete, but it is "just too far away and too expensive to (onAS HE APPROACHES the foul li,le, Rich Hiley prepar!,s to release the ball. tinue in that division," commented Burt. ' 'The great advantage of the SIBC is that you bowl every game face to face, and this really makes better bowlers out of the team because you have direct competition, and the pressure is on them to do well," added Burt. So, even though the Ale competition is ceasing this year, the Bisons may still be in the running in the SlBC division competition to hopefully begin next year. l?:I - Matt Flinchum U!ill 127 Bowling
