1979-1980 Yearbook

Ending right on target 114 Last November the Harding University cross-country team captured their ninth straight AIC championship. The Harding harriers swept the top six individual places at the meet. The Bald Knob course was a challenging five-mile trek that carried the 70 or so runners around sharp turns and over hilly terrain. The course was chosen by Harding coach Ted Uoyd, the host of this year's meet, with those Cross Country features in mind for two reasons. First, Harding would be at an advantage over the other conference schools, having emphasized hill workouts in their training. Also, the rugged Bald Knob course would serve as an excellent warm-up for the equally difficult course the team would encounter at the NAIA meet two weeks later. This planning paid 011 as the Bisons were able to wear their opponents down over their hilly home course on the way to a longhoped-for conference sweep. The sweep gave the Bisons a perfect score of 15 points in the meet. The only other year a perfect score was achieved in the AIC meet had been in 1965 by another Harding squad. Coach Lloyd felt the performance 41 the conference meet was the climax of a successful season. And the season's success was accredited to Uoyd when he was voted the AIC Coach of the Year. - Richard Teixeira trnD AS ONE of the top runners in the AIC, Richard Teixeira shows great ability i1l the skills of cross country. ________________________ ~ ___________ ~ ________....J t~ :·'~':~.i -...·'- ·
