Faculty enhanced by new members and workshops Our year of changes extended to the faculty as four new teachers came to the Academy and one returned. Returning was Mr. David "Skitch" Henderson, who had taught science at Harding Academy for two years. Last year he worked on his Masters of Arts in Religion degree at the Harding Graduate School in Memphis. This year he taught Bible and eighth grade science. Mr. Tony Finley, who came to the Academy from DeQueen, Arkansas, is in his eleventh year of teaching. He received his BSE degree from Henderson State in 1964 and his MA from Southeast Missouri in 1972. He has been a principal and a basketball coach as well as a teacher. This year, besides teaching science, Mr . Finley supervised the janitorial staff. Mr. Finley enjoys watching all kinds of sports, "even tictac-toe," and believes, "You can't win 'em all." He also restores antique automobiles as a hobby. Miss Jeannie Gillmore, from Spring· dale, Arkansas, began her first year of high school teaching. She received her BSE degree from Abilene Christian University in 1976 and her MA degree from Missouri University in 1978, where she also taught freshman and sophomore English. She now teaches speech, drama and ninth grade English. She does needle work and enjoys sports, especially tennis. "I'll watch anything," she asserted, when asked which sports she most enjoyed. Mr. Steve Sexson was a graduate of Harding Academy in 1972, where he was named twice to the All-District football team. In this , his first year of teaching, he coached, taught physical education and a ninth-grade Bible class. Coach Sexson likes to travel, camp, get out of doors , and even cut wood, which "is a kind of work I like." Miss Lee Bost is in her third year of teaching, having taught two years at West Memphis Christian Academy. She James laRue. MA Marie Yingling, 8A Mathematics English Social Studies 2 received her BA degree from Harding College in 1974. Besides teaching French courses at the Academy , she serves as secretary to Dr. Winfred Wright of the college French Department and as dorm mother to the freshmen and sophomore Academy boarding girls. She enjoys tenniS, swimming and bowling, "when I have time for them." New to the staff was Mrs. Sue McGaha, secretary to Mr. Ed Higginbotham. Mrs ,- McGaha previously worked five years in the Harding College Business Office and before that spent fifteen years as secretary to several area administrators. In the fall the faculty and staff benefited from eight Teacher Effectiveness Training sessions, each two and one-half hours long, taught by Mr. Hugh Groover. The purpose of this inservice training was to enable teachers to deal more effectively with their students, parents and each other. 1.
