1978-1979 Yearbook

Who's Who honors thirty-nine Representing all academic divisions of the college, 39 upperclassmen were elected to membership in Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities. Qualifying for the honor required a cumulative average of 2.50 or higher and nomination by either the Student Association or a faculty member. Nominees were chosen from a list of 173 students and voted on by the faculty. Factors considered in the voting included scholarship. leadership. citizenship and future promise. Doug ~urns6 "We have a responsibility. no matter what state the world is in, to make it a better place for those who come after us," stated Doug Burns, a Bible major from Iron City, Tennessee. With his minor in social science, Doug was a member of the Timothy Club, Dactylology Club and the Big Buddies program. A member of TNT social club, he served as beau for Zeta Rho for two years. He plans to continue his studies at North Texas State University where he wants to certify to teach. Eventually, Doug wishes to obtain a pOSition working with youth in the church. Attending one year at Memphis State University only briefly interrupted the involvement of Kathy Berryhill in life at Harding. A vocational home economics major, Kathy demonstrated her interest in the field as a member of the American Home Economics Association for three years. Twice named the Outstanding Student in Home Economics, she was active in Kappa Delta Pi and the Student National Education Association for two years. Participating in Chi Lambda Chi social club for three years and intramural athletics for four, Kathy was inducted into Alpha Chi, Phi Kappa Phi and the American Vocational Association dur· ing her senior year at Harding. ¢ marcia Gustin A transfer from Abilene Christian University, Marcia Austin entered Harding's nursing program as a junior and studied here for three years. Marcia was a three-year Alpha Chi member and participated in both the Harding Student Nurses Association and the Harding College Honor Society for Nurses. Assisting with several JOY programs and two years of work with World Evangelism Forum were some of Marcia'~ extra-curricular activities at Harding. ¢$ara ~ri?ant Sara Bryant, from Pasadena. California, transferred to Harding as a junior. having attended Lubbock Christian College and Texas Tech University. A nursing major, Sara Jo was a member of the National Student Nurses Association and served as treasurer for the Harding Honor SOCiety of Nursing. Named to the Dean's List for two years, she was inducted this year into Alpha Chi. She also worked with JOY.
