Olree encourages physical fitness Dr Harry Olree 's association with Harding College began in 1949 as a student. He returned to his alma mater in a professional capacity in 1957 to join the physical education department, a department in which he now serves as chairman. In --/111 y addition, he is athletic director, research director and a professor of health, physical education and recreation . His recognition as a Distinguished Teacher of 1978 was a reward for his diligent effort in sharing what he believes about physical education. "A physical education teacher has what I believe to be a closer relationship with his students through physical activity courses than in routine classroom lecturing ," he said. " It is through playing a game, physical activity, that one's true feelings and personality are shown. Then the Left, PRACTICING what he preaches, Harry O/tee plays a vigorous game of racquetball. teacher or coach really comes to know his pupil and can have a definite influence in guiding him toward his potential." Among his responsibilities are supervising the nine intercollegiate sports , overseeing the department of health , physical education and recreation, and directing the research program. A serious proponent of physical activity , he practices what he teaches in personal exercis~, his favorite activity being handball.
