Dr . Olree was appointed to the Board of Directors of the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment and as chairman of the Honor Awards Committee for the Arkansas Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation. Ted Lloyd served as president of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Track Coaches Association. For the Arkansas Intercollegiate Athletic Conference , Dr. Olree served as chairman of the athletic directors , John Prock served as chairman of the football coaches and Dick Johnson advised the baseball coaches. Missions is major thrust of Nursing Department Dr. Ruth Cole joined the faculty this fall , providing leadership in the preparation for National League accreditation. Jerry R. Myhan joined the staff as Associate Instructor and Rebecca Matthews returned after a year's leave of absence completing her M. N . Sc . degree in family -community health. Cathie Smith, Nancy Clark and Lo uise Truex worked toward their doctorates on a part-time basis while carrying a full load in the department. A major thrust in the nursing program continued to be medical missions. "Health Care Missions" was the title of an elective course for students who planned to enter the mission field. During the summer, Nancy Leslie accompanied a group of graduates to the Cameroons in West Africa and Janice Bingham led a group to Nigeria. Of the 35 May graduates who took the July Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses , 34 passed and the remaining student passed four of the five sections. This was the best record achieved by a nursing school in Arkansas. During the summer of 1978, the nurse practitioner emphasis of the Kellogg Grant was refocused on development of NASA research results in new course During the fall of 1978, Dr . Harry Olree and Bob Corbin completed a long series of research projects on physical fitness evaluations sponsored by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
