"Club sports really brings a closeness to your team and club, and is just a lot of fun," states senior Ruthie Tabor. A member of Ko Jo Kai , Ruthie has played "A" team volleyball , basketball and softball. To really have a winning team, it takes total teamwork. "We practice mainly as a team and have good individual players. We try to revolve around OUf best players with everyone else backing them up to playas a team." Women's sports is a very important issue in Ruthie's view. "I really think it's important to have women's sports, and , wish Harding would take a better interest. I realize it would take a lot of money, but I believe there's a lot of talent here. " During her first two years at Harding, Ruthie played on the Searcy league of the AAU basketball team along with several other Harding women as there was no collegiate team. The team captured the number one title in Arkansas both years. "I think there should be an equal share of athletics for men and women, and believe the women 's program should be developed as much as possible." Ruthie believes the current intramural program is basically adequate but feels the program is not stressed or publicized enough. "I think our club and intramural program could be improved if swimming and gymnastics were added , and if the program was publicized more. " In dealing with the general attitude towards sports, Ruthie believes it is a fairly healthy one. "Generally when you play, people get to know each other and get to be good friends that you keep all year long. But, when it gets right to the end - in "A" games especially - it gets competitive and sometimes there are a lot of hard feelings there and you have to struggle with your Christianity." Ruthie summed it up by stating, "We must remember we're Christians first, then there will be a whole new light shed on our sports. " 160" Intramural.
