1978-1979 Yearbook

Senior Stan Eckwood completed his fourth year on the Bison basketball team this year. Having been an allconference athlete in high school , he continued his success throughout his college career. A highlight this year for him was the declaration of February 26 as "Stan Eckwood Day" by the mayor of Searcy. When asked how he felt upon hearing this news , Stan said he just "couldn't believe it." In a special presentation in chapel , Jim Wilson , president of the Searcy Chamber of Commerce, announced the proclama· tion and Eckwood received a standing ovation. Basketball plays a most important role in Stan Eckwood's life. What does he enjoy most about the game? "It seems to please everybody. It's a good game to watch," he commented. As an indiVidual, Stan begins preparing mentally for a game at least a day ahead of time. "I try to get myself psyched up the night before." Immediately before a game, then, he tries to calm down . Naturally, Eckwood must also interact with others in basketball. Commenting on this year's Bison team, he believed that there was a lot of unity and that the players worked together well. And what will become of Stan Eckwood after he graduates? His involvement with basketball will continue, but in a different way. "I want to be a coach. That's my main plan. " Though Stan will soon be leaving Harding, his basketball talent will not be forgotten . 152 ~ Basketball
