Officially known as the Harding Forensic Squad because of their participation in events other than debate, the twelve members of the team captured their first sweepstakes victory of the year at the Red River classic on the campus of Louisiana State University in Shreveport. The sweepstakes trophy came as a result of Philip Gould, Bob Chandler and Brad Baker advancing to the finals in their respective categories of Poetry Interpretation, Persuasive Speaking and Extemporaneous Speaking . Adding to the Jeff Hobbs-Bob Chandler which placed second in .the junior and varsity debate divisions. The Harding Forensic Squad also claimed first in total pOints at the Arkansas Speech Communication Association Student Congress of Human Relations in Little Rock. In that competition the squad participated in events such as parliamentary procedure, floor debate and committee work. Founded to provide dietetics majors with information on becoming registered dieticians, the Dietetics Club allowed Speakers from the fields of nutrition, dietetics and business were invited to speak to the organization throughout the year. Members were involved in the community observing a Nutrition and PhYSical Fitness project being conducted at Rose Bud and Pangburn schools. Debbie Owens described the project: "Nutrition education ideas were used at one of the schools and the traditional amount of nutrition education at the other.
