-;"l "I. Feel t~at Campus Singers have displayed the opportunity to develop fnendshIps and have given many the privilege of singing in a group ..." --Wayne Wilkinson Meeting for fifty minutes every Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, Campus Singers offered an alternative for those students who enjoyed choral singing, but whose schedules would not allow the daily rehearsals demanded by A Cappella or Chorale . Director of A Cappella, Dr. Kenneth Davis guided the group and gave limited instruction in improving vocal technique and in learning some musical basics . The only prerequisites for gaining membership were expressed interest and, as one member commented , "a reasonable ability to sing." There were no auditions as such. Dr. Davis encouraged the Campus singers to use the abilities they might have developed by joining campaigns, both in the states and abroad . Campus Singers made their first appearance before the student body in the February 2 chapel program. Included in their repertoire were religiOUS selections such as "Salvation is Created," "Lo, a Voice" and "Prayer ." The group also performed an original selection by music faculty member Dr. William Holloway entitled "Peace I Leave With You." In October the group enjoyed a banquet in the Recording Studio with the theme, "Sunrise , Sunset." Roller skating followed the meal. Throughout the year Campus Singers tried to become better acquainted with one another through numerous devotionals and skating parties . Wayne Wilkinson , Campus Singers President for two years, stated "I feel that Campus Singers have successfully displayed the opportunity to develop friendships and have given many the privilege of singing in a group ." Serving with Wayne as elected officers of Campus Singers were: Brenda Nash , Vice-president; Nancy Cantley, treasurer; Karen Edwards , secretary . Campus Singers presented their last performance of the year during chapel in April. Their program included such ' selections as "The Sound of Music," "Music Man" and many spirituals . 1.
