Spirit builders Hard ing Academy has always been recogni zed for its tremendous amount of school spirit in backing their ath let i c teams. Two organizations of girls who ' played a big part in keeping this spirit were the Pep Club and the junior High Cheerleaders. The Pep Club stayed busy all year long wi th jobs ranging from selling ribbons to giving parties. Each week during football season, Pep Club girls wou ld stay after school and decorate the halls wi th streamers and signs. Pep CIub also sponsored the Homecoming activ ities each year. They spent many long nights out at the Vinson' s farm, cutting, folding, stuffing and fluffing napkins into a f loat. The Pep Club also supported the basketball teams by goi ng and yel li ng at the games and having a • treat for them after chapel in the Home Economics room, each game day . Supporting the junior High bal l teams kept the j unior High Cheerl eaders very busy. Each game day they too would make " peanut" good ies and decorate the hall s. The chee rl eaders would a l so make spec ial treats for the coaches on game days. A special lady to all the spir it groups was Mrs . Ann Norwood. Not only is she the gi rl s' (grades 4-12) Physical Edueation teacher , but she sponsored junior and Senior High cheerl eaders and the Pep Club. She devoted much ti me and effort to these groups and was greatly appreciated by the students and teachers at Hard ing Academy. Spirit Groups • 337
