Spelunkers change name and acquire a national charter Harding's underground group , formerly known as the Spelunkers, became the first Groto of the National Spelealogical Society in the state of Arkansas when they changed their name to Cel1Ark 51l1dem Groto. Their purposes, however, remained the same, to explore, preserve, protect : ' study caves, and to promote fellowship of the students interested in doing so. Trips were taken to various caves in and around Arkansas that were previously unexplored by the Hard ing group. The A mericall Home Economics Association provided professional organization for students involved in home economics. Members attended a faculty panel on the subject of child adoption . They also continued the annual singing of Christmas carols to local jail prisoners. Service projects included the distributing of Avon samples to the elderly confined in local nursing homes. Members of the Pltysical Education Majors lind Minors club served as referees, umpires, and various other officials for intramural sports . 170 / DEPARTMENTAL
