Shaken by the Watergate and the tapes' scandal, the nation reeled at the historic resignation of a vice president. Storm clouds shrouded liberty momentarily as assaults were renewed - against the president and the presidency. Faith and confidence in the American ideal were bolstered by the enormous successes of Skylab I and I I. The struggles that the nation now is enduring can be used to grow even stronger, to wake up from lethargy and complacency. Struggles on campus too proved stimulating. Football provided vicarious joy and release , pledgeweek made each of us look inward at our own strengths and characters and motives. New visions brought closeness and happiness.
