Freshman's talent helps re,-establish • • wmnmg season After a dismal record of7-18 in 1973, the Harding Bison cagers rebounded to a .500 season. Many improvements were seen in the squad, which em· phasized defense and ball control. The '74 season also saw several . outstanding individual performances. Freshman Butch Gardner impressed everyone with his dazzling team play and versatile scoring and rebounding ability. He set a single·season scoring mark for a freshman with 515 points to rank third in the AlC, and to become the top scorer in Harding's history. Only five Bison players have scored over 500 points in a single season. Gardner, along with Freddie Dixon and Gary Baker, placed high on the AlC rebounding charts. 1.
