Returning veterans, versaille recruits give needed depth "We plan to stress defense as if it were the only thing," stated Coach Jess Bucy as he began his fifth season as Bison head basketball coach. Although the 1972·73 season had been a losing season, 7·18, the Bisons hit 46 per cent from the field and better than 68 per cent at the free throw line. Junior guard Tim Vick and senior center Freddie Dixon, potential All· AIC candidates , headed the list of eight returning lettermen who had each started at one time during the last season. Senior forward Larry Aggas and senior guard Lester Davidson were regulars at the end of the 1972·73 season. Two juniors, guard Randy Mulvaney and forward ·center Steve Kent, gave solid depth at these posts. Two sophomores, center· forward Gary Baker and guard·forward Randy Reynolds, showed great potential their first year. Among the freshmen were some outstanding recruits capable of pushing the returning veterans. Butch Gardner, a versatile high school AIl·American athlete from Searcy, gave promise of being one of the greatest athletes to play in the AIC. 254 / BASKETBALL
