Backfield quartet achieves harmony in record yardage A quartet of Bison offensive backs, quarterback Tom Ed Gooden, tailback Alan Dixon, fullback Ted Walters and wingback Jack Barber, started together for two straight years and rolled up more than 6,400 yards and tallied 415 points, an average of more than 800 yards and 52 points per back per season. Gooden and Dixon, two of the most prolific backs in Arkansas grid history, climaxed their brilliant careers by breaking into the upper crust of Ale football record holders. Gooden, a bona fide triple threater, passed, kicked and scrambled his way to high rankings in career total offense with 3,055 yards, career field goals with 11 , career passing with 2,332 yards and extra point kicking with 53 PAT's. The durable Dixon has registered the second best career rushing total, 4,082 yards, and the third highest career scoring sum, 210 points, in league annals.
