Graduate program expands curriculum, offers workshops To meet the expanding scope of public education tn Arkansas and surrounding states, graduate offerings in kindergarten and special ed ucation were added to the Master of Arts in Teaching program during 1973. Also, the graduate programs in speech therapy and Bible were expanded. During 1973, 20 MAT degrees were conferred . Three workshops were planned for the 1974 summer session - Mathematics and Science in the Elementary School, Teaching Reading in the Primary Grades, and Teaching the Bible in the Public Schools. On Feb. 12-13, Dr. John T. Thornton, a 1959 graduate who is now a reading specialist in Texas, conducted a seminar on "Common Myths of Reading Instruction" as the Education Department's part in the 50th-year celebration of Harding as a senior college.
