WORLD SCENE WorId situations touch the lives of every student Events happening throughout the world created a special interest for Harding students for academic purposes and because of genuine concern over the plight of mankind. Wars affected some students' homes. and others were alarmed by natural disasters. International diplomacy which lead to the expUlsion of Nationalist China from the U. N. distressed students from Oriental nations. President Nixon's move to place a freeze on the American economy touched every part of American life, including the economic situation of Harding. Awareness of international occurances led the student to a better understanding of the world with which he must cope. PRIOR to the U. N. vote to oust Nation· alist China, Liu Chien leads a walkout. WORKERS search the debris of Veterans Administration Hospital left by a massive earth· quake that shook the Los Angeles area where many families of Harding students live.
