p SPARTANS Spartans develop active leadership in initial year In an attempt to develop leadership and fairness, and realizing the need for an active participation in club activi · ties, twenty· three freshman men organ· ized a new social club on campus called Spartans. They enthusiastically entered competition in football and Qasketball . Due to the fact that aU members were new, they held a picnic for all the members during pledge week. Their club project was continued throughout the year by helping with painting and yardwork at the West Pleasure Church of Christ. With com· mon interests in motorcycles, members enjoyed movies and discussions with their cycle enthusiastic sponsor, Mr. Dugger, and worked as his pit crew during his races in the spring. = • 238 PRACTICING energetically for their first year of club basketbal l competition, several members of Spartans ottempt to recover the ball while others watch the results.
