FOOTBALL Harding completes strict Ale schedule in fourth place tie Plagued by an exceptionally bigb number of player injuries, tbe 1971 Harding Bison football team compiled a .500 season as they defeated all cross-sectional opponents, but finished in a di sappointing fourth place tie in the AlC. The Bison, under the guidance of four experienced seniors, recorded the second highest statist ics both offensively and defensively in the conference. Harding's pass defense was rated second in Division II of the National Ass~ciation of Intercollegiate Athletics. Of the thirty-three original scoolarship players, twelve were injured before the season ended, but help from the inexperienced younger players aided the team considerably. The Bison outga ined their opponents, 329 yards to 282, in total offense. The team's passing department was highest in the AlC at 169 yards, compared to the competing average of only 64 yards per game.
