CHEERLEADERS Kathy Nelson and laura Shuffett lead the student body in "Gronk" at the pep rally before the Bison 's first football ~ame of the season aqainst Southwestern College, The girls joining Martina and Laura on the squad this year were Linda Ken· drick, Kathy Nelson, Susan Poteet, Ginny Alden, and Jeanine Cooper. Wendy Pal· mer, daughter of Dr. H. C. Palmer, Jr., was the youngest member and new mascot, with Mrs. Eddie Campbell as the new squad sponsor this year. The cheerleaders spent hours each week building school spirit for the Bison teams. The girls announced Bison games and rallies with singing chapel commercials. The squad sponsored a car bash to get student pep high for the Homecoming football game. Another new device used this year was the Spirit Trophy spon· sored by Alpha Omega Alpha. This com· petition provided a greater display of posters on campus and a stronger partici· pation of the student body at pep rallies.
