FOOTBALL Harding 6 Arkansas AM&N 16 In the first football competition between the two schools, the Golden Lions of Arkansas AM&N downed the Bisons 16-6 in a non-conference contest. The team from Pine Bluff scored two touchdowns in the first ten minutes of play on a 47-yard interception return and 21-yard pass. The Bison defensive crew, led by the inspired play of senior linebacker Ken Merritt, shut off Lion scoring after the first quarter except for a fourth quarter field goal. Merritt was credited with 19 unassisted tackles, 12 assists, and one pass breakup in the second period. With Harding's air game limited by the fine play of the Lion's pass defense, the offensive unit relied on its rushing strength. Tailback Alan Dixon rushed for 122 yards on 22 carries and had a 66 yard touchdown run call ed back by a penalty. The AM&N defense held AII-AlC end Ronnie Peacock to only three receptions.
