COACHING 5T AFF Six new coaches increase staff of Bisons' athletic department Under the leadership of new Athletic Director Hugh Groover, who retired as head basketball coach in the spring, and the faculty athletic committee, the intercollegiate athletic program at Harding began the 1969-70 year with six new coaches: Dick Johnson, assistant football and head baseball coach; Cliff Sharp, assistant football; Jess Bucy, head basketball; Ned Boaz, assistant basketball; Norman Merritt, golf; and Mike Clark, swimming. Returning members of the coaching staff were John Prock, head football coach; Jerry Mote, assistant football; Ted Lloyd, track; Virgil Lawyer, cross country; Ed Burt, bowling; and Bob Knight. tennis. In 1968-69 Harding athletic teams captured conference championships in cross country, bowling and tennis and accumulated sufficient points in the AIC All-Sports Trophy contest to finish within four and a half points of the coveted crown. Taking seriously their responsibility to bring out the best in their charges, the coaches spend many hours grooming the athletes. The results make for many exciting experiences for the fans.
