Vines, Sapp, Coach Higginbotham. Senior Wildcat members end on winning note The Harding Academy Wildcat's 1968 basketball season was one of many high points and a few disappointments. The Wildcats closed out the season with a winning record, however, as they posted twelve wins against ten losses. The Wildcats were able to participate in three tournaments during the course of the season. In the County Invitational Tournament, Jaro Finney was selected as a member of the all-tournament team. Throughout the season, the Wildcats showed good hustle and displayed a strong desire to succeed. This determination to win resulted in fine teamwork among the members of the team and strong backing by the enthusiastic supporters of the Wildcats. Juniors Lee Daniel and Jara Finney provided the Wildcat fans with many thrills during the season by consistently scoring in double figures. Sophomore John Vines was also a big asset to the team as he made use of his height advantage against the Wildcat's opponents in becoming one of the team's leaders in rebounding. Seniors Jim Atteberry and Johnny Sapp rounded out the list of the starting five. Seniors Rick Wood and Joel Harris were also counted on heavily by Coach Ed Higginbotham. Other Wildcat seniors who played their final season on the Academy's 1968 basketball team are Mike Vines, Bill Pratt and Lester Allen. 280 A LEAPING WILDCAT springs high into the air as he tries to tip the ball to his tense teammates in a tip-off situation.
