SECOND ROW: Davis, Ganu s, Bridges, Webb, Curry, Smith, Moore , Groove r, Kell, MUSIC GROUPS Under the new direction of Dan Smith, chorus does well Membership in the Academy A Cappella choru s is lim ited to those in senior hi gh school and is determin ed by scholarship, charac ter and a vocal tryout. A desire to si ng is also a very important fa ctor beca use of the hard practicing that is necessary, including daily r eh earsals at 7:30 a.m. The choms made two tours under the direc tion of Dan Smith, who proved to be a very capablc director even during hi s first year at the Academy. Their fall trip on a long week-end ca rri ed them through parts of Arkansas and Louisiana. In the spring th e ch om s. on a full- week 's tri p, traveled th rough Louis iana and into southern T exas . Other activities of the group included a distri ct chorus fes ti val at Little Rock and sta te fes tival at Hot Springs, several programs at home and the yearbook signing party at the end of th e yea r . An opportun ity to participate in musical activiti es was also provi ded junior hi gh sch ool students through membership in the Junior Hi gh School Choms, directed by Mrs. Florence H enry.
