PLEADING for help in getting her pledge book full of signatures, Gloria Maddox frantically trys hard to please the hardhearted pledgemasters. PLEDGEWEEK THE APK girls do their best to look as if They ' re really en joy ing a party given by Their pledgemosters, as they flash a smile of happiness. Excitement and frustration face harried pledges "Green, lowly" freshmen and new students endure a week of being insignificant rats, ostriches, wonns, and finites plus being subordinate to those who were once considered equals only to find themselves again fully accepted as club members and friends at the week's end. Pledge week, a period of orientation, comes during the seventh week of school. After each student has stated club preferences, bids are eagerly awaited to find out which club they are bearing invitation to join. Included in the week's activities are good deeds for pledgemasters, hours spent in required study, practical jokes and menial tasks such as measuring the sidewalks, counting the "moons," and collecting endless signatures . Some clubs turned the week to good advantage for getting campus jobs done such as cleaning out the lily pool. Countless numbers of required dates, major and minor, gave opportunity for many people to get acquainted. Rough initiations and impressive, candlelight ceremonies where club vows were read brought an end to a long week for tired pledges - and pledgemasters. PLEDGE Midge Pitman is given a helping hand with her club attire from upperclassman Dwayne Von Rheenen as she goes about Jl ledge week task.
