SPENDING a major portion of his time in dass, freshman Ken Ellingwood learns quickly that closs ottendonce is a necessary evil of college life. AFTERNOON LIFE Classes and assignments occupy afternoon time Developing into a whole person is one of the main activities of the afternoon at Harding. Classes continue the task that was begun in the morning, and the thought-creations of the past geniuses come to life again to vividly impress learning and its values upon the students. However, as the afternoon wears on and the classes draw to a close one by one, many other events begin to take their place in the development of the entire person. Sometimes this development is a quiet, refreshing moment with a coke and a friend , a time to relax and let the day's activities sink in, or it could be an animated discussion on the large course assignment. Beyond being concerned with only the accumulated knowledge of the ages, the afternoon provides a chance to work off steam in a variety of intramural sports. Also, many of the Harding students work at various campus jobs to help offset the expenses of a college education. The afternoon lends itself as a convenient time to participate in co-curricular activities. 84 CHECKING their walches in order to see if they ore still on schedule for the afternoon's mony activities, is a custom most Hardingites follow every day.
