The fresh smell of clover, the return of the robin, and the warm spring weather found a group of twenty boys burning up the cinders behind Rhodes Field House. The Harding intercollegiate team began workouts in the gymnasium long before the weather was warm enough to practice outside. Mainstay of the Bison track squad was Roger "Banister" Brown who thrives on the longer races. His aids were Fred Massey and John Van Winkle in the distance runs. Dash men were Ed Hightower and Bubba Davis, and the fi eld events were handled by the Vanderpool twins along with Jim Citty and Jack Rhodes. What the cindermen from Harding lacked in ability and depth, they made up for in determination and drive.
