Excitement and suspense run high as the crowd anxiously awaits the entrance of the May Queen and her court. The royal court is composed of representatives of each of the social clubs in college and in high schoo!. The queen and her two attendants are chosen by the entire student body in an election held earlier in the school year. Concluding the coronation ceremony is the winding of the May Pole. This year saw the return of a second pole, which increased the number of winders to forty-eight. Adding sparkle an: /!aiety to the event were the court jesters. Planning and preparations were begun months before by '56 director Jackie King. The graceful May Pole winders present quite a different picture during the early morning hours of the month preceding the festivities as they go through their daily "rain dance" practice. The prevailing costume for this portion of the activity is blue jeans, coveralls and coats featured around half open eyes and rolled up hair. May Queen Nominees - Patsy Prevett.
