PETIT JEAN POETRY CLUB Sam Peebles, Arne Lou Murphree, Fletcher Floyd, Zelma Bell Hobart Ashby, Mabel Dean McDaniel, Kern Sears Sam Peebles Fletcher Floyd OFFICERS President Secretary-Treasurer Organized in 1936 under the sponsorship of John Copeland, instructor in Poetry Writing, the Poetry Club has grown cnd increased in prominence on the campus since thot t ime. In the spring of '37, the club printed as on experiment, a twenty-four page anthology of undergraduate verse. This small volume wns well received by the student body cnd the club decided to make this publicotion on onnuol project. This yeor the volume was increased in s iz e by twelve pages. 1 t received favorable mention from several critics and some of the poetry in the volume was accepted by the University Post Publishing Company of North Carolina and appeared in on all southern anthology of poetry publ ished by that company. The Club has decided that all alumni may remain active contributors to the annual anthology and by this means the Club hopes to be able to publish on improved and large r volume each year. I 9 3 8
