' AMERICAN STUDIES PROGRAM TOUR- SPRING 1976 ON THE TRAIL OF LIBERTY AND FREEDOM On Friday afternoon, March 19, fifty-nine juniors and seniors from Harding College and five faculty members boarded a bus and two station wagons for the spring trip which was to involve visits to Williamsburg, Washington, D. C., Philadelphia, and Valley Forge. Leaving at 5:00p.m., the first evening was spent in Nashville, Tennessee. Early the morning of Saturday, March 20, the group departed for Williamsburg. Early on the morning of Sunday, March 21, the group journeyed to Jamestown Festival Park, located adjacent to Jamestown Island. At the accessible part the students · were able to enjoy museums containing artifacts from the first years of settlement of Jamestown and to relive the history of that colony from the organization of the Colonizers in England until the Mid-18th Century. Also, at the Festival Park were replicas of the fort that was built on the island of Indian Home and of the three ships, Susan Constant, the Godspeed, and the Discovery on which the early settlers arrived. Upon leaving the Festival Park, the group toured Jamestown Island, seeing the ruins of the early settlements and the Jamestown church which had been restored. The group then returned to Williamsburg for worship services at the Williamsburg Church of Christ. Following church services, we immediately went to the historic area of Williamsburg. There the students were able to eat in the historic eating establishment which was the favorite of men like Goergc Washington, Thom:-ts Jefferson, and many other famous Virginians. The afternoon was spent in touring the historic area, which included hundreds of buildings in an area of approximately one mile in length. The
