Corn111unicatioris _Seminar To Be Held in ~lena The University of Arkansas will present a seminar on Effective Supervisory Com– munications in ,Mena, consecutive Monday and Tuesday evenings, March 15, 16, 22, 23, 29 & 30, 1976. Conducted by the University of Arkansas lnciustrial Research and Extension Center, the seminar will concern itself with the most widely discussed management problem of the 1970's, the "communications breakdown". It will be held at the Rich Mountain Vo-Tech School, Mena. Each sessions starts at 7 ~.m. Topics covered in this six-session seminar include: self-understanding, · situational management, the communications process, management in crisis, the supervisor's role in employee counseling and problem-solving· for supervisors. . '/2203 or telephone 501-371-1971. ,, Bertice · Bennett, circUit clerk, was named the winner .9f the third annual Libel;tl( Bell award by the • Tuscaloosa Coun~y Bar Association Friday. · Mrs. Bennett, who has worked in the office of the Circuit Clerk since 1950 and held the office since 1968, was chosen from nominations submitted to a special cQIIliDittee of the Bar Association. Other .. finalists were William R. Marable, chief of police in Tuscaloosa for the past 14 years who retired Friday; and Russell ~.. Summerlin who has headed ~VIliversity of Alabama's t:.aWJ Enforcement Academy since '1972•. The award goes to a citizen who has made an out– standing contribution to the law and judicial system who is not a member of a bar association. Mrs. Bennett was nominated by tJ:te ~roptimist -International Club of Tuscaloosa. ·'s~ was named circuit clerk in 1968 to fill the unexPired term of the late John W. Snider and then was elected to the position in 1970. . In his speech to the bar association, Dr. Bill Cox, vice president of Harding College in Searcy, Ark., said "rebirth and ·renewal" are the two ingredients needed to maintain the nation's strength as it marks its 200th anniversary. · He said,\here needs tobe a greatei- ·~lief in the system of government under which we live and "more salesmen for the system." ... Noting the present period · is ·a time of :tcrisis in the nation's history, Dr. Cox said that the Bicentennial ob– servance is "not a time for weakness." He urged a renewal in re!ttiurcefulness, faith in capitalism, the desire for freedom, the importance of spiritual values and tough– mindedness among citizens.
