Winnie Bell Going Away Party

1403 Fox Drive Searcy, Arkansas 72143 May 30, 2007 Dear Winnie, You are first remembered by the Rices as a paper route customer of Sunnyhill Drive. Now that may be a unique postion that we hold as persons who are recalling relationships to Winnie. But that is how we first knew of you in 1982. Isn't it nice that we recall you as a satisfied, non compllaining, paid on time customer.:) That's a little as a librarian being able to remember those who took good care of your books and returned them on time.:) Probably next I remember you as reported by Suzanne Spurrier as one of those great people that she worked with in the library. I saw Suzanne alsmost weekly in Student Health Services. She was a burst of energy and fun. She almost made me wish that I worked in the library with Winnie Bell, but we did have fun ourselves in the clinic. But Suzanne made you wonder a bit if you had it as good as she did in the liblrary. The other person who gave me that vicarious friendship with Winnie was Theda Aaron. She talked about her fnend and trips. Again I wondered if I should be traveli~ with - Harding's bus driver, or going with Theda and her friend Winnie. It seemed that they saw lots of sites and had lots of fun. Well, I did, too, going with the Harding groups. However it was a bit tempting to desire to go on one of those trips withTheda and Winnie. And when Theda told me that she had moved out of her house for a couple weeks to be a house mate with Winnie, I thought what a friend and travel buddy. When Theda's remodeling was completed at her house, she returned home. Sometimes at funerals you hear about people that you knew, but not as well as they were known and enjoyed by several people. Then you t~ink, I wish that I had invested time with them. Of course, that is not possible for us or them. You only have so much time for such relationships. And everyone is not a close or intimate match for you. However, I have always thought it a little like John the Baptist preparing the way for the Lord when I hear people talking about a friend or person. How imporant that it is for.a person who speaks of a friend or another person to realize that she is preparing the way for that person. The way of Winnie Bell has been pronounced by her friends to be one that makes you think that maybe we should have had ten more of her. Then maybe I could have known her better.
