Winnie Bell Going Away Party

Dea r f\J i. nni.e, I remember when you and Mildred came to Harding after WWII ended, during which you worked in defense related industry, I believe. Ed and I moved here in the summer of 1947 with our baby daughter. My siste Nancy Perry followed us here to finish her Home Ee degree that she started at Lipscomb, but interrupted it with marriage,a baby daughter, and a divorce. You, Mildred, and Mrs. Bell were kind in helping her resume schooling in spite of these handicaps. You may have been conscripted to "babysit" little Cindy some times. Ed and I lived in the temporary West Dorm for boys, and Nancy and Cindy moved in with us for a brief time before they moved to Mrs. Bell's house. Mrs. S.A. Bell was the Home EC dept. chairman and sympathetic to Nancy's goal of finishing her degree. After that Nancy moved to Florida and taught at a Christian school in Mt. Dora awhile. She always had a warm place in her heart for you and Mildred. Nancy taught Home Ee in California until she retired, and I've kept her posted with news about you and your sister Mildred, as well as your mother who moved here. -~~~'~'~o:i;p~,~,.,,,Jll~~)C/UIJll,-- My mother, a recent widow, was welcomed to a women's Thurs. afternoon~ le class after she moved to Searcy from Tenn. in 1981. Your hospitality and kindness to her will always occupy a warm place in my memories of your family. She loved meeting with them.Of course, your efficient oversight of Harding' library was a great blessing to Harding and to me after I started teaching full time in the Music Dept Your humble attitude toward all the praise · HU you richly deserve- forAlibrary development and improvements , reminds me of Jesus' rule to be a "servant" rather than aim to be great. I'm sure you will hear His welcome to "good and faithful"servants. We will miss you when you move but know we will all join Mildred in God's cit r; r, before long, God bless you. Your grateful friend, ~~
