Miss Barrett, who is now teach,. ing in Crowley's Ridge Academy :n Paragould, was unable to be there. She is the third · conse~ ~ive editor to have "her book" judged All American, the highest ·ating given by the Associated ;ollegiate Press at the Univer– sity of Minnesota. General Excellence Award In · statewide competition, the book took first place honors in ill four yea.rboQk divisions which insured it of the third General Excellence Award, highest state honor,. in as many years. Books are rated according to photo– cp-aphy, tYPography and layout, editorial content and editorial planning. Closest contender to Harding'a Petit Jean was Arkansas Poly– tech:1uc College's Agricola, which ·'received its first All American rating. The book also took se– cond place honors in typography and layout and editorial content <.md third place for photography and ·editorial planning. · All American Judge ·This year, All American judg– ing was done QY Mrs. Fran Flit– ton Compton. The 1961-62 Petit Jean compiled more points than either of Harding's previous All American books. Commenting on its qualities, Mrs. Compton wrote, "What a pleasure to r_ead and see a book so thoughtfully ex– ecuted. Congratulations and keep up the good work." Newspaper Program I The ACPA meeting was held at · the Velda Rose Motel.
