Sears, dean of _Hard~ng Col- lege since its founding ' in 1924, announced his retirement at a faculty staff dinner tonight. · Dr. Joseph E. Pryor, chairman of the Physical Science Department and the Athletic Committee, will take over Monday as dean. --,-- Dr. Sears' retirement becomes\ / effective Saturday at the end ofl • the current .school year. The 65- ' year-old dean will continue as professor of English. '' He became dean and professor of English when Harding was formed in 1924 and directed nu– merous studies that led to Hard– ing's accreditation in the North Central Association in 1953. Dr. Sears, a native of Indiana, attended Cordell Christian Col– lege and the University of Okla– homa. He earned his master's degree at the University of Kan– sas and his doctor's degree from the University of Chicago. He began his teaching career in 1916 at Cordell and three years later was appointed dean at Harper (Kan.> College. He is president of the Arkansas Association of College Deans, the Arkansas Association of .College English Teachers and the De– partment of Higher Education of the Arkansas Education Asso– ciation.
