Pryor, outgoing dean of Harding Univ~rsity, was suprised Friday at graduation ceremonies when· Mrs. Em– ma Pagcaliwagan· of Liver– pool, New .York presented him with two colorful strands of flowers, the tradi– tional "garland of service" award from her native Philippines. Pa~caliwagan's daughter, Lorene, was among the 119 August graduates, and established a school first, becoming the first graduate to - complete a four-year bachelor's degree program in two years. Mrs. Pagciliwagan presented Pryor first with a leia of red and white silk flowers om recognition of "the manv educationl, academic, social, spiritual and peresonal services he has rendered to our family, students, fellow man, his country, and God." She then placed a second wreath of 1,000 orange petals around Pryor's neck, sym– bolizing ''the many acts of service and deeds of kind~ ness he bas .preformed dur– ing bis 40 year educatio~l career." Pryor, 65, was the gradua.: lion · speaker and on bis retirement day, told those present that students were somewhat like concrete in that they set, or mature at their own rate and timetable, and not according · to expectations of faculty members or parents. He • praised the Harding student body as "one of the finest in the anywhere " and cite~ the many ac– complishments that Harding students achieve each year.
