,, David Burks announced the naming of the university's science building to honor a professor in the department The building will be "The Joseph E. Pryor ScienceCen~" in tribute to a 45-year member of the science faculty who retired at the close of the spring semester. The annou~ was made as Pryor, who retired ear– lie.r as academic dean of the universi– ty and also as a vice president for academic affairs, was about to address the 340 graduates. "The Board ofTrustees has recom– mended this announcement as an appopriatem~ofhonoringooo who has been totally committed to the mission and goa1s of Harding University," Burks said "We feel this is a fitting gesture f<r Dr. Joe, a scientist himself who has influenced numerous science students and stu– dents of other areas through the years." _ The science building was a-ected in 1967 and expanded in 1984. One wing of the building bas been designed "The R.T. Clark R~ Centez," commemorating the former vice l)l'eSident who died in 1966. Pry<r, a 1937 graduate of Harding, -jioned the faculty in 1944. In addition to administrative and teaching responsibilities, he was Petit Jam yearbook advisor for more than 40 years, rq>resented the univmity in the Arkansas Intecollegiate Confer– ence 30 years and sezved in all levels of Alpha Chi national scholarship society.
