There are 53 chapters in Region VI, and according to Dr. Michael Sabol, although most of the chapters are active <;>n their campuses, on– ly about 15 participate in regional and na– tional activities. The meeting was held at the New York Penta Hotel on Saturday, October 29. Pre– sent were Dr. William Zahka, president; Dr. Christine Condoris, vice-president; Dr. Michael Sabol, secretary-treasurer and Linda Zettlemoyer, student representative. The committee agreed that top priori– ty should be given to making existing chapters more active before installing new chapters in the region. Once this is ac– complished, new chapters will be assign– ed an active chapter to act as a mentor in order to keep all chapters involved. The committee agreed that a subsidy of $25 toward convention expenses will be given to Region VI students who present papers at New Orleans in the spring. The subsidy will be available for four students per chapter. Subsidies are also available for convention expenses from the Na– tional Council as noted above. The committee discussed the fact that not many Region VI Chapters applied last year for the Davis Award. Dr. Sabol will notify all chapters regarding the award and urge them to apply for it, as well as for Benedict and Nolle scholarships. The regional officers also agreed to have a telephone campaign to make direct calls to faculty sponsors concerning the availability of.awards and to urge conven– tion attendance.
