Pryor Scrapbook Dr. Joe, 1986
Dr. Joseph E. Pryor, Sponsor The Petit Jean Harding University Searcy, Arkansas 72143 Dear Joe: March 3, 1986 It's hard to believe that 40 years have passed since I edited the 1946 Petit Jean. What growing and exciting times those were! Even tho years have passed there are many experiences still vivid in my mind that might be interesting for you to recall. There were no assistant editors or people with experience as all who worked with me were senior class members. None of us had had previous experience on editing anything except a term paper . But, as a Home Economics major, selected by the Junior Class to be the editor, immediate plans were begun researching annuals . As you know, putting an annual together back then was quite different from the way it's handled today . It is more complicated and more people are involved. We did not have a "John Clark" to do paste-ups nor the "print shop" to run copy, nor did we have deadlines . Too, this was the time -of Business Managers and they were responsible for getting money to pay for the book. Remember the deficite? Remember going to Oklahoma City on a train to proof-read the final copy? Remember when on Dedication Day the books arrived and the covers did not fit? Remember the frozen bouquets the Queens carried because someone turned the refrigerator down? Remember the volatile letter I received from a certain department head because their department was not included in the annual? But - in spite of these and other trials you were always there to soften the blows . It was this year you came into my life and what a blessing you were, have been and continue to be to me. There is lots more that I remember but will not memtion it here . I'm thankful you were my chemistry teacher, Petit Jean advisor, Senior Class sponsor, senior advisor and now my husband for 40 great years. What a lucky editor I was and am . I love you, Bessie Bessie Mae Ledbetter Pryor Editor, 1946 Petit Jean
