Pryor Scrapbook Dr. Joe, 1986

TEXAS PRESS womEN Ann McGrath 1713 Ridgemont ichita Falls, Texas 76309 Dr. Joseph E. Pryor Harding University Searcy, Arkansas 72143 Dear Dr. Joe: It seems that 1968 was so long ago, and yet, like only yesterday, too. You let a girl who was long on ideas and short on grade point average edit "your" Petit Jean. I promised not to flunk out, and you promised that you'd "consider" a purple yearbook! From then on, we got along very well, because I didn't . flunk, and you didn't have to write as much copy as in years past! And, once you got used to the idea that Randy Jackson sold ads in the daytime and I edited copy at night, you found out that the work was indeed getting done. It was a creative year, and a creative staff. Who else would have had a female sports editor, a male student life editor, and twins for organizations editors? Our photographer, Pat Lyon, was also creative ... like the time he helped us warm cold pizza on the picture dryerl It was also the year the art editor decidedthat the only way to deal with peeling yellow wall paint was to incorporate it into a mural, using purple paintl I understand that it was painted over the next year, and that the following year, the entire office was moved across campus! From our vantage point of the second story window in the old Clark Student Center, we could see everything going on, on campus. I wonder if the new office has a similar view? We thought we had a handle on Harding, and on the world! That year of working with the teachers, staff and students was one that came in handy in the world of television. Working with deadlines, the unexpected, and creative, tempermental people was something with which I was already familiar. I cherish my years at Harding, and I cherish the friendships that were made. I have also appreciated your help, your guidance, and your leadership. You allowed us to do our best work. Thank you for a terrific year and very special memories. After all, it was "unique!"
