Pryor Scrapbook Dr. Joe, 1986

March 15, 1986 Dear Dr. Joe: Seventeen years ago this spring, you were causing your Petit Jean editor and staff a great deal of stress! Oh, of course as in the many years before and the many years since you were your kind, gentle and patient self in winding down the book and taking it to press. But behind the scenes, the staff of the 1969 book was setting the stage for some intrigue that would make Agent 007 proud, or so we thought. Our only problem was that even Agent 007 had not met the likes of you. In your thorough way you checked us and rechecked us and finally we all returned from John Clark's pleased with the knowledge that the 1969 Petit Jean was finally being printed. In the following weeks, the staff chuckled and patted ourselves on the back on a very difficult task we felt we had accomplished behind your back. Only one obstacle remained in our way, and as the book delivery date approached that obstacle grew formidable. How could we hyjack the books and keep you away.----- My memory has become foggy, probably from old age, but I know we tried to change delivery dates, times and places or in general confuse the issue. But you had done this a few times more than we had. And to this day, you've never admitted you got to the books before we did but somehow I think you did. Yet, being the very considerate person you are -- you acted surprised at the ceremonies and most graciously accepted our dedication of the 1969 Petit Jean to you! I didn't get to express my full appreciation that day but thankfully God has given me another chance. So today, thank you, Dr. Joe for your special friendship, your wonderful support and your great sensitivity on Petit Jean Day 1969 to allow your staff to think we had done the impossible -- surprise you! All of my love and best wishes on March 29th. Diane iane Hoagland Editor 1969 Petit Jean
